During Satyrday's insurance presentation "Are you covered?", questions came up about injury that happened to subs (not employees) who were doing rehab work on properties. I have checked with an attorney friend of mine, Victor McCall (817-793-4323), who works with property investors. He suggested 2 things: (1) propably a good idea to have the properties titled in a separate entity from the rehab operation, (2) injury a sub does to himself while working for you is NOT your legal liability. I also talked with several insurance underwriters who told me the same thing. Finally if you would like to provide some coverage to key subs for injury, since they can't get work comp if the are a one man operation, there are accident policies available to pay pre-defined expenses for injury from an accident. These cost about $33.00 per month per person. Typically less expensive than work comp, but with limited benefits. Call me with questions - 817-845-8546 (cell) or 817-719-1671 (office)
